Music Man Tonight

Story Behind The Song

A song about life on the road as an under-appreciated musician, entertaining thoughts of hanging it up before moving forward triumphantly. This is about overcoming self-doubt, being the best you can be at what you do.

Lyrics

Waiting for the curtains to open, let me be your music man tonight.
Trying so hard to be popular, let me be your music man tonight.
Superstars are just like magic - now you see them, now you don't.
I keep telling myself I'll give up but sure as hell I won't.

'Cause I'm a music man, a one-night stand.
Let me be your music man tonight.
None of you know me as I really am, only as your music man tonight.
The road can feel so tragic, surrounded but you're all alone.
I keep telling myself I'll give up but sure as hell I won't.

Superstars are just like magic - Now you see them, now you don't!
I keep telling myself I'll give up but sure as hell I won't.

Ohhho. Ohhho. Let me be your music man tonight.
Ohhho. Ohhho. Let me be your music man tonight.
Ohhho. Ohhho. Let me be your music man tonight.
Ohhho. Ohhho. Let me be your music man tonight.
Ohhho. Ohhho. Let me be your music man tonight.

I really like this song. The harmonies were really great. I liked the part where the music stopped for the harmonies. This song put me in mind of a band from the early seventies called Redeye. They had very similar sounding harmonies. I always loved that band. Check them out!!!

Just excellent and inspiring across the board! You and your team have a new fan! This song is a hit and sounds like it could fit in a scene in a movie like Sweet Home Alabama!

First couple of words from the singer and I thought oh no this might be a car crash but that was instantly remedied by those great harmonies. Reminded me of many great 70´s bands such as Eagles and the like. Great backing track - sweet to listen to and fabulous guitar playing. Stopping the music for the ´Now You See them´ shows a good ear for variation and keeping the listener interested.

Very well written and well arranged piece which 99.99 percent of musicians can readily identify with. Really good instrumentation and arrangement.Guitar solo puts you very much to mind of the Allman Brothers.

Good solid commercial rock. The players are on the money. The vocals are strong. Clean production along the lines of some of the great southern California acts over the seventies and eighties!

A really nice track, with lots of energy and sincerity. I particularly like the way the quite dry recording of the main vocal underlines it without raising it too high in the mix and in general the mixing and production are very intelligent. The song is catchy and fresh, and stands out from the crowd with an unusual crispness to the sound. The musicians are all doing a great job in supporting the lead vocal and backing vocals, and this is clearly a tight band, whom it would be great to hear live.

Catchy, free flowing mid-tempo rock song, reminiscent of Steve Miller Band. I really enjoyed the harmonies and vocals, with the overdubbing effects. I think that made the song! I found the song to be catchy, but in an interesting way. It was not too simplistic, the verses, that is. It was catchy in a unique way that I can't quite put my finger on. The chorus was catchy in a traditional way, but the verses had something more to them that made the song more complex and intriguing.
