Hi Natalie! Thanks for the great comments on my song, "Walkin" (To The Beat Of The Lord). Glad you enjoyed it and please stay safe in Kyiv.
Thanks for the great review of "Farmer's Daughter", guys! First song I ever wrote, circa 1970 and it only took me 45 years to get into the studio to record it. Glad you enjoyed it.
Hi Bob, Thanks for the listen and review of "Wide Eyed Child". As always, appreciate your input. Bill
Thanks for the excellent review of "What About My Reward" -- and by the way, that was the point of the song, to show that not all Good Samaritans are what they seem. Sometimes they're only in it for the fame and money. In the 3rd verse when the man jumps, he "prays for his soul to The Lord" but immediately asks if he gets anything for that, highlighting his hypocrisy.
Bob thanks again for the very kind words and score for my bands song The One. Much appreciated Ante Novaselic
Thanks for reviewing my sports rock tune, the instrumental version of Tonight's The Night - I notice you're Canadian and this song actually appears on Ontario-based DJ Emidio Vaz's compilation CD, "Emidio's Rock Den Vol. 1."
Thanks for the review of Blues Conversation. I appreciate the kind words.
Bob thank you for your kind words and fair review of my bands song "Play Yah". Thank you man! Gonna take a listen to some of your tunes rite after I am done writing you this message. Thx again!! Best, Ante Novaselic
Hi Bob , thanks for reviewing DANCING ON AIR . Ha Ha , I actually wrote it about 10 years ago for our sons wedding , but most of my songs sound like they were written in the 70s !
It's a sweet message. I guess when I review things I'm basing them off current playlists and charts (regardless of genre) to see how they'd stack up against today's competition. It wouldn't take much to make it sound more like a throw-back 70s sound, in the vein of Englebert Humperdinck or similar.
At my age , doubt if I will ever write anything that's in today's charts , and I'm not sure I want to . I just enjoy the whole writing/recording process , anything else will be a bonus .
You know you've finally reached the zone where you are just happy making and playing the music It's building a musical brick poem that will always stand----------------Catnip=+= Also love your logo!!
I've been in the zone for a long time now !
Glad you enjoyed Farmer's Daughter and thanks for the nice review! Not sure how to work together, as I don't have a studio and only have access to one in Charlotte (3+ hours away) to do any vocals. You can reach me via email - heyguru@att.net with any details.
Thanks for the outstanding review of my Country shuffle! It's the instrumental backing track to "Cowboy" which definitely has both lyrics and harmonies.
Hi Bob, Thanks for the listen and review of "Mean Dreams". Absolutely agree with you on the production problems. It was a very quick and dirty last minute version just to meet a deadline. I'll get back to it in time, clean it up, probably start from scratch and maybe tone down the lyrics a bit. As always , appreciate your input. Bill
Cheers on the review of Rage of the lemming, an oldie but a goody. Appreciate your thoughts surly. Vi
Hi Bob , thanks for your review of "Surfing The Net" . Ha Ha , i see you've been listening through those headphones of yours again ! I will have to get myself a set , either that or get yours confiscated . As always , your input is greatly appreciated .
I try to review a few every day, although there's one band I keep getting that is so horrific (not sure how to get rid of them). Uncle Spider and the Electric Dirt Clods. Out of tune, out of tempo, out of ideas, just awful.
Ooops , I quite like them - their on my Broadjam friends list ! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder..... Like you I try to review a couple a day , but I skip over anything I don't like .
So far I've heard 1 that I liked, and probably 80 that were unlistenable, but different strokes as they say!
Hi Bob , thanks for reviewing "ALL THE LIGHTS COME ON" . I've listened (many times) on headphones , and I can't hear what you're hearing . Of course , sometimes we get seduced by our own creations ! That's why it's always good to get feedback from other people .
Cool song with a "new wave" vibe. I use pro-grade Sennheiser and Beyerdynamic headphones which pick up literally everything no matter how small, so it's something most people wouldn't notice (but a Music Supervisor looking for TV or film music might). Sounds almost like it was recorded "hot" pegging into the red just a tad bit more in spots on accents. Again, Joe Average would never notice. I always try to give totally honest critiques because it's the only thing that helps us improve, but that can sometimes lead to a lower score than the song deserves. Luckily no one actually sees the scores but the artist.
Cheers Bob , your comments are very much appreciated . I don't have anywhere near as much technical knowledge as you , Joe average about sums me up !
Hello Bob, thank you for your review regarding my song 'Lockdown' Lindsay
Thanks for the great reviews of "What About My Reward" and "Music Man Tonight" - much appreciated and glad you enjoyed them!
Man, this is OUTSTANDING! Love the vibe, Dude -- impressive.
Bob, Thanks for the listen and review of "I Know". Might disagree with you on listing this as a Jazz tune. There are some elements that might be considered jazzish, harmonically, but to one who has spent most of my life as a Jazz guy this isn't it. Maybe 'unique'? As always , thanks again for your input. Bill
Hi Bob - I'm new to BroadJam, and appreciate your kind review of 'I Just Want To Drive'. Of course, I said to myself, let's check out Bob Birthisel, and Wowser! I just listened to 'Work'. Loved it. I'll be listening to more of your songs. Thanks, again. - Peter
Awesome, thanks Peter! I plan to do the same. Just FYI I've enjoyed Broadjam but I've kind of given up on the paid music submission part (on virtually ALL such websites). Have had a lot of success on other free platforms including a National Fox TV broadcast, but zero luck here after a few years and some dollars spent. However, it's still a fun place to discover new sounds.
Yep. I hear you. TAXI - BroadJam, they can open some doors, but the best bet seems to be going directly to the libraries, and/or connecting with music supervisors. The libraries I'm in , I contacted directly...I played 'Work' for my wife and she said 'Why isn't that on the radio?'
Ha! It is (on a few internet radio sites). Glad she liked it - have you seen my little homemade video? I try to inject a little humor here and there. The moneymakers for me have been AudioSparx/RadioSparx, Pond5 and the toughtest to get into, Crucial Music. Took me years to get one song accepted and they take 3 months to review, but that's how I got my song on an episode of Fox's "Call Me Kat" in Feb. 2021. Only played for 3 seconds and they still paid $1,000 on a 50/50 split with Crucial. You should at least try them if you haven't already. AudioSparx is regular quarterly income for me.
Good tips, TNX. I submitted 3 songs to Crucial last September. On October 3rd they rejected 2, but accepted the song of mine you reviewed ('I just Want To Drive'). It took until last week for the 'checking rights' process to get completed, and I signed the deal this past Monday. I'll be loading 3 more in for review soon. I also contacted Beth Wernick at 'Imaginary Friends Music Partners' directly, and she took the 2 songs I sent here the same day! She's exclusive, though, so maybe not right for everyone. So my songs 'You And I', and 'Don't Tell Me' (posted here) are out of circulation for a year while she pitches them. She places songs with the soap, 'The Young and The Restless', Hallmark and others. Not a 'Crucial', but a start! She has a FaceBook Group you can join, and also a web site, and accepts direct submissions. I have a lot of product, but not a lot that have gotten a pro rinse yet, so i need to peck away at that as money allows. Stacy Hogan at 'A Writer's Paradise' in Nashville has done 5 songs for me now, and is my biggest asset. Great players, full WFHs, good communicator and very successful in his own right. (check out his video of 'Masquerade' on YouTube - as song he wrote and did with his rock band, Sin Shake Sin). I'd like to talk with you sometime about GAT3 Studios. I saw them noted in your info. Are we friends here? We should be!
That's fantastic that you've gotten into Crucial, and congrats on the other exclusive. I got my Christmas song signed to a 3-year exclusive in 2016, but the guy "Mr. Christmas" turned out to be a joke and never did anything with it, so I'm out on exclusives. My biggest revenue stream is AudioSparx (and RadioSparx) who pay quarterly, and have overhead music deals everywhere like malls, stores, restaurants, etc. Totally free, non-exclusive. As for the studio, it's GAT3.com and they're super-nice, strong Christian folks who have won Grammys and Dove Awards. Artists range from DaBaby to Def Leppard, James Brown, The Band Perry, Queen Latifah, Kidd Rock and Matchbox 20. Glenn Tabor is the owner with his wife Susan. Feel free to check them out - they can also supply exceptional players.
Thanks for the excellent review my sports rock instrumental. The full vocal version has Yes-like harmonies and lyrics to match the sports feel. It's called "Tonight's The Night" if you feel like checking it out!
Hey Bob, Looks like you got another one of my tunes to review. I appreciate the great review of The Kettle Black and I will listen to that keyboard part you mentioned. Thanks for the heads-up!
No problem - brilliant song! I just picture what a Hammond B3 pr a deep, ballsy organ would sound like on those parts and it's a world of difference to me (I listen to everything on studio headphones)
Hey Bob, Thanks for the great review of Just For Fun! Much appreciated! George
Hi Dave - thanks for the exceptional review of my anthemic rock piece (edited instrumental version of "What About My Reward"). I appreciate the time you took, even mentioning the timing change! That was done with just 2 players, a drummer and a multi-guitarist/bassist. Written in 1972 it only took me a little over 40 years to get into the studio and breathe life into it.
Hi Bob, really enjoyed your work on this song... 40 year?! That sounds about right. I'm so glad this song found the light of day. Looking forward to the next.
Thanks for the continued excellent reviews, Phil - not sure how you keep getting me, but glad you like them! "That's One Thing (Intro only)" is just the first 1/3 of the song...it actually kicks way up-tempo with cascading harmonies and a rocking guitar solo. It's on my page if you want to hear the full thing.
Ha Ha , I'm not sure either ! Looking forward to hearing the full version .
Hi Bob , thanks for reviewing YOU ARE THE LOVE . At last , one you didn't like ! Oh well , you can't win 'em all.
Sorry - I never know who I'm reviewing! I know because my songs cross a wide variety of genres that some folks will be turned off by some of them. That's ok as long as I still dig them!
Ha Ha , no worries Bob .
Thanks for your review of WHALE OF A TIME . As always , your input is greatly appreciated . We had a lot of fun working on this one , which I wrote to celebrate when covid restrictions are finally lifted . It's main claim to fame so far , is that it was played on Boom Radio by legendary English dj , DIDDY DAVID HAMILTON . In his time , he was a presenter on radio1 and Top of the Pops.
Hello again Bob ! Thanks for your review of TREMBLING . I never know what category to put my songs under !
Glad you liked Old Man, Young Man Phil. Thanks for reviewing!
Thanks for the great review of Blues Conversation! I was going for a Stevie Ray meets Joe Bonamassa feel.
