Where Sorrows Meet The River

Story Behind The Song

This song was originally a choral setting of a sad lyric I wrote many years ago. I revived it thinking it might make a good chamber-type instrumental. I reworked it for a woodwind quartet of flute, clarinet, oboe and bassoon, and then added strings just to fill it out a bit.

Song Description

The poem/lyric to which the original choral version was set is rather pretty, if depressing. I may try to record a choral version, when I have access to a good soprano voice. Here is the poem: Where Sorrows Meet The River Where sorrows meet the river, Where daydreams greet the sand; That's where I'll be waiting, That is where I'll Stand To kiss the dried up flowers All wrinkled in my hand. To hear the call of sunrise, Over a tear-misted land. Swallows in moonbeams, I look to the sky; Why do we stay When our dreams all Start to fly? When star-shine lights the morning, And echoes fear to burn, A dying breed of lover Is waiting for the tide that will not return.
