Story Behind The Song
A friend had his guitar stolen out of a locked vehicle after performing and it inspired thoughts of justice. It made me think of past events where friends have had people and things stolen from them and I thought about all the energy that they put into them that was taken. I think that the more likely one is to steal, the less that person's capacity to really love anything or anyone. Empathy can be a double edged sword.

Lyrics
Stealing Fire
A pane of glass splintered in a million pieces is all that remains
Of years of soul poured into a hole surrounded by wood and strings
Some say it's just an object and can be replaced
but they can't understand it's a shot to the face
when you teach a guitar to sing to the sound
of the blood pumping through your veins
So to hell with anyone that would take that from you
She's not an object she's a labor of love
To hell with the one that would steal fire from heaven
They can gasp for their empathy down in the fires of hell
The smell of gasoline and a wrench in your hand
Each bike part a map in your mind
You never thought that your ride would end
From some bastard robbing you blind
The feel of the engine massaging your spine
Is wasted on one who has none
You dream of the day but it only holds your heart
Hostage at the end of your own gun
She's so beautiful, beauty that can't be bought
She knows every pain in your back
Her fingers connect to the roots that you feel
Whenever your eyelids turn black
You can't blame a man for stopping and staring
That tree's gotta bend with the wind
But sometimes a stare can scream like a chainsaw
Cutting you off at the shins
