Hi Wallace, I only now have read your very kind review of the 3rd movement of my Cosmopolitan string quartet. Your are right on both counts: it is a studio recording of a real string quartet and there is a closing Rondo movement following Scherzo Adagietto. Thanks again for your very thorough review.
Dan, Just listened to your featured movement of the Cosmopolitan string quartet. It was an aural feast.
Thank you very much Wallace. I am on a family road trip until next week. I am curious how did you find about Cosmopolitan? I will listen to your music when I come back. Thanks again for your kind encouragement.
Thank you for the most amazing and in-depth review Wallace! I truly appreciate your kind words. Please stay in touch! All the best and I'll try to get time to also go through your questions with some detail - I appreciate what you noticed and the questions about it. Thanks again!
Hey Walace, thanks for your insights and cogent remarks on Concerto # 17.
Nice piece "Nocturne-Lullaby" , Walk in twilight ...think deeply ...memories .
Just listened to your keyboard piece that you began in 2007. The miminalist influence is apparent, but you didn't allow it to restrict your movement in the lines. I enjoyed the colorful dissonance that seemed to grow out of the lines. What did seem "minimalist" was the inflexible tempo and unchanging note values. You said you have left minimalism. As this was the first of your works I've listened to, I'm looking forward to hearing others.
Thank you for considerations . I've observed it as an extended one ...not exactly like the past . Not those rules and those values ...You are right but I did it intentionally ..."To grow in itself" , in some ways be connected to minimal concept and some ways not . I was influenced by Glass at first and Reich's Process Music after that but not exactly like it . I allowed the fluidity but again technically restricted . And I should say maybe I didn't write well , I left The Piece not Minimalism .
"He's Gone Away" Superb expand of instrumentation and development of the idea , for a short time however . "Nocturne-vendredi et seul" is an improvisation ? Light like a breeze ... Pasha
Pasha, Thank you. "He's Gone Away" is an arrangement of an old folk song. I did it for a sound track, so the length of the piece needed to be right for the video. "Nocturne-vendredi et seul" though not an improvisation was really composed at the piano. I am about to post another piece "Nocturne-Lullaby" - a digital recording composed for a daughter. I hope you enjoy it as well. Thank you for taking the time to listen to my work, and to share your comments.
Pasha, Thank you for your gracious and intelligent review of "Reconaissance." Your skill and perceptiveness are much appreciated, particularly the specific suggestions. This was a highly experimental attempt to blend two disparate styles and color palettes, so your open mindedness is a great help.
You're welcome . I will listen to your worx and leave comments for you ...
Congrats on your accomplishments. Are you familiar what the Rowley family in Prescott? Mr. Rowley taught shop for many years at Prescott High. Daughter named Nancy.
So, you are correct about the level of recording....and I have several of Brooke's pieces in the studio the sound and performance are very but I think that one trades a little better sound fore that extra dose of good ole spontaneity!
Hi Roy. Would like to suggest making a distinction between original pieces, and recordings of existing works. For example: when reviewing a recording of singer and accompanist performing a song by Debussy, the ratings for originality, quality of arrangement, quality of hook, etc. don't really seem applicable. With the current "blind" set up (a great idea generally) a reviewer has no idea (unless he recognizes the work) that the composition/arrangement is by someone else other than the performers. Thank you for considering this.
Wallace, Thanks for the note and the suggestion. This is an excellent idea and it is now on our list to discuss at our next development meeting.....All the best, Roy
My Humble Thanks for you fine review Of "PLODDING FOR SCIENCE". Your commentary was very thorough and much appreciated. -Benjamin
Once again a marvelous review on Brooke Pulin's interpretation of Debussy's "Beau Soir".... There is also a studio recording of Brooke singing this piece, which I produced in LA... The live recording was done when Brooke was a junior in college.......it was part of her junior recital......this school didn't have any sophisticated recording equipment so we used what they had, and you know funky as the recording is it does exude charm and kind of blends in real good with a piece like this.....but do go over to my page and treat yourself to the studio rendition sometime......while you're over there, if you have a few extra moments, indulge yourself in her performances(2)of Menotti's Monica's Waltz and the wonderful Trees On The Mountain.........Cheers! Rich Pulin, aka Brooke's Dad & career musician(55 years and counting!)
You seem to have done the same thing in reviewing my piece - all 1's? I too, would appreciate it if you contacted customer service to have this fixed. Thank you.
NashvilleJoe, Your generous review of my piece "Morning Fanfare" was astonishing. I'm glad you enjoyed it and appreciated it being short.
Robert, Thank you for your review of "Regrets." I appreciated the comments especially.
My pleasure Wallace... keep on making music!
David, thank you for your amazing review of "He's gone away." It is an arrangement of a folk song. I'm so pleased that you found it moving.
Thank you for your detailed review of Nocture - Vendredi et Seul. Your knowledgeable comments were refreshing.
I would echo Michael's review below! Thanks for taking the time to listen to our piece and make accurate and intelligent remarks! I agree with most of what you said. The trumpet(he's a student and the vocalist's boyfriend) is flat on one or two notes....and what can you say or do about a live college recital performance?....I guess just enjoy the innocence, charm and spontaneity..... The piece is mine and I was honored to be sandwiched, in the program, between Mr. Handel, Mr. Debussy, Mr. Bernstein and other fine writers.....the language, by my daughter(again the vocalist)Brooke's choice is Italian....we translated my original english lyric because she felt it was a tad sentimental(as lyrics by proud dad's tend to be sometimes)... As with many of Brooke's live and/or earlier recordings, I hope to re-record them in the studio at some point in time! Brooke is one of the few opera singers who can 'switch-hit' and sing very effectively in many other genre's as well as being a very valuable studio vocalist! Once again thanks for a terrific and thorough review! Please visit our page at www.broadjam.com/richpulin and listen to some of Brooke and my family's other material! Kind Regards, Rich Pulin
Dear Mr. Taylor, I was so impressed with your arr. of "He's gone away" I'd like your permission to use that track dubbing in my own words Respectfully Buddy Lee Rimar
