In A Ghetto De Vida / Rap Hip Hop

Story Behind The Song

When I was 22, I was in between bands and wanted some new guitars so I got a job working the night shift at a warehouse in Los Angeles. Just so happens that a few of my co-workers were Mexican guys who were low riders/gang bangers whatever. After a while we got to be friends. This got easier once I understood a few things such as figuring out the reason they called each other Holmes was not for a fondness of the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle character. And so this one night after work I was invited to join the home boys over to someones "crib". After a while we needed to make a beer run. I jumped in to the back seat of this lowered car and off we went. Four guys in a low rider headed down Whittier Blvd. And I'm not kidding you when I say there was a 9 in the glove and a short barrel Uzi in the trunk. They weren't Boy Scouts but they were prepared. The music thudded and there was no fear in the air. "So this is what it's like to be one of those guys." The kinds of guys that if you pull up next to them at a red light you don't look over. I never forgot that feeling and wrote this as a tribute to them and the moment in time.
