Story Behind The Song
Music was written first. The lyrical content reflects for me the musical tone of the song - the chorus chords are quite emotive in the structure.
Song Description
The ongoing situation in Zimbabwe is something few can ignore. The rich, corrupt and powerful leaders, and their indifference to the suffering of the people of Zimbabwe, are something I felt compelled to write about. Original concept was to write the song from the viewpoint of the native people, but on reflection it could also be said to apply to the white farmers who were removed and the resulting food disaster.

Lyrics
They're walking for miles with their lives on their heads
And wondering what the future holds
For each of their children
Sadness abounds on the long road ahead
Wondering when the next meal comes
For each of their children
And when they dream about the future
They dream of one day going home
To the land where they were born
The land that they rightfully own
It's in the eyes of children it's in the eyes of every man
The hope they had is fading the hope of everyone in the land
It's in the mouths of hunger it's in the tears of true despair
The eyes of Zimbabwe are wondering if we really care
Their voices are gone big feet in the air
Crushing every dream they had
For each of their children
Hunger abounds with arms outstretched
Wondering if it's the last breath
For each of their children
And while they're questioning their faith
The ones with all the power just smile
They are waving all their fingers
Of blame across the thousands of miles
It's in the eyes of children it's in the eyes of every man
The hope they had is fading the hope of everyone in the land
It's in the mouths of hunger it's in the tears of true despair
Tears of Zimbabwe no tears from a millionaire
It's in the eyes of children it's in the eyes of every man
The hope they had is fading the hope of everyone in the land
It's in the mouths of hunger it's in the tears of true despair
The eyes of Zimbabwe are wondering if we really care
