The Knowers of Things

He Holds Out His Coffee Cup
To Get His Free Re-fill
While His Buddy Says, "I Guess It's Time
For My Blood Pressure Pill"
They Might Look Like Two Old Coots
Just Blowin' Their Smoke Rings
But To Me They Are The Knowers of Things
They Know How to Build a House
They Know How to Fix a Car
They Know What It's Like to Lose a Friend Beside You In a War
They Know Hard Times Means Santa Claus Has Nothing Left to Bring
They Are The Knowers of Things
Every Day They Still Cut Up
In That Same Old Corner Booth
These Men That Time Has Written Off
As Too Long In The Tooth
But In My Eyes They're Holding Court
Just Like They Were Kings
For To Me They Are The Knowers of Things
They Know How to Build a House
They Know How to Fix a Car
They Know What It's Like to Lose a Friend Beside You In a War
They Know Hard Times Means Santa Claus Has Nothing Left to Bring
They Are The Knowers of Things
Yeah, They Talk Loud
Cause They're Half Deaf
And One Day If You're Lucky
You Might Be One Yourself
They Know How to Build a House
They Know How to Fix a Car
They Know Slowing Down Means They Don't Have to Hurry Any More
It Won't Be Long
Til They Fly Home
On Angel's Wings
They Are The Knowers of Things
They Are The Knowers of Things
