Michael Porter began his career as a staff jingle lyricist for the William B. Tanner Company. In 1989, his first cut was on Shelby Lynne's album "Sunrise" on Epic Records. The song "Thinking About You Again" was co-written with Stephony Smith. In 1985 he signed as a staff songwriter for Chips Moman Music when the famous writer/producer returned to Memphis. During this time Moman produced the "Class of '55" album with Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison and Carl Perkins. Moman also produced an album with Ringo Starr. In 2001, Michael won American Songwriter Magazine's Song of the Year Award for "The Knowers of Things." In 2008 Michael's song "Lone Star Flag" (co-written with Wake Eastman) was released as a single by independent country artist Pauline Reese and her High Country Band on their album "Too Texas: Live At Cherry Ridge." The album won "Album of the Year" and "Lone Star" was nominated for "Record of the Year" by the Academy of Texas Music.
