Lazy Summer (feat. Sarah Harralson)

Story Behind The Song

I came up with a melody and played it for my wife, Lora. She said, "That sounds like summer!" So I wrote words to match the mood of the melody.

Song Description

A song about looking back on my teenage years riding a bicycle on country roads around Boise, Idaho in the summer, taking time to be lazy and dream of having a summer love. I wanted to put the word "cat" into the words, too.

Lyrics

Hear the wind blow through the trees
Feel the heat rush through my sleeves
Sage and lilac fill the breeze
Not a soul in front of me.

Me, I pedal quietly
Follow rows of willow trees
Something distant calls to me
A meadow and some scattered leaves.

I don't mind if I do waste
An hour or two
Laying like a cat out in the sun
There's nobody that I owe
Nobody who can tell me
Toe the line
It's time to come home.

Dream of laughter on the grass
Hidden love beneath the trees
Hours drift like cirrus clouds
Lazy summer come to me.

I don't mind if I do waste
An hour or two
Laying like a cat out in the sun
There's nobody that I owe
Nobody who can tell me
Toe the line
It's time to come home.

Hear the wind blow through the trees
Feel the heat rush through my sleeves
Sage and lilac fill the breeze
Lazy summer come to me
Lazy summer come to me
Lazy summer come to me.
