Have a Great Summer, Don't Change

Story Behind The Song

Sometimes it's easier to cut ties than it is to hold on for hope. So when these girls kept coming back to talk, I decided I'd rather write a song about them all, explaining their shortcomings and wishing they'd disappear. The music just rocks hard and starts with a minor chord to illustrate the confusion. The anthemic chorus is supposed to be liberating.

Song Description

Former love interests coming out of the woodwork, to the frustration of the singer, who would rather they go away so he can move on with his life.

Lyrics

Remember when we first met? It seems so long ago
I was a senior, and you were too young for me
Now you're all growed up, now look at you go!
You're all smartened up, bi and stoned, careless and free
So why so suddenly?

Remember the time I was at your apartment until 5 a.m.?
That's how rumors, they get started, but that's not where the story ends
You grabbed my coat 'cause you wanted to know, then you found out, then you ran
Then you yelled across a barren wasteland something about "friends"
So why so pathetically?
I guess my next two words should be "Thank you"

I appreciate all the attention, but I must ask the question
Where did you go when it counted?
I'm not one to ask for this attention, let me make one suggestion
Please turn the spotlight down

Remember when we first met? It seems so long ago
I was a junior, and I fell in love with your...
Then someone else came along, then someone else came along
And now you're here, and now your head's stuck in my song
So why so regrettably?
I let you get the best of me

(Then someone else came along)
How did you get my number?
(And now your head's stuck in this song)
Don't want another chapter, no happily ever after
I want my last words to be what I wrote inside your yearbook
So why so forgettably?
Have a great summer, don't change
