Story Behind The Song
This was another song inspired by Barry, my husband. But this song is also about letting go of all attachments in the material realm. The song is sad and lonely, which is very much how I felt during the early days of our love affair. I learned that regardless how I tried, I could not manipulate the cosmic timeline of events. Consequently, I had to let him go and leave the rest in The Supreme?s hands. Barry later used this song in his father?s eulogy to emphasize the necessity of letting him go on to his next assignment.
Song Description
Letting Go begins with a bright string interplay then fades gently into a somber piano melody. The composition builds slowly from there, only to drop off into a most haunting oboe and English horn duet, indicating a mood of wrenching heartbreak and lonliness. The piano picks up tempo and solos again to brighten the mood, with the strings and woodwinds making a strong entrance to build to the climax, enabling the listener to envision holding onto something so tightly and then suddenly setting it free, just as the old adage.
