I began playing around the age of 6 when my dad brought his 1939 Kalamazoo acoustic guitar out of the storage room, dusted it off, put a few new strings on it and taught me some old standards, like Down in the Valley and Five Foot Two, using cowboy chords. I was already listening to AM radio and started learning rock and roll songs. My first live performance was for my 4th Grade class, when I played House of the Rising Sun. I played in a few bands in high school and college, but stopped playing for about 20 years to raise my kids. Before they were completely out on their own, I wrote and performed poetry for several years while gradually getting back into practice on the guitar. After my youngest left for college, I found the time to get serious with my guitar and to start writing songs again. Now I realize what I've been missing. What a blast!
