Allis and John

Story Behind The Song

My step father brought his old 1952 B Allis Chalmers tractor over to the house one morning and left it there all Summer. As it sat there each night I got to thinking about the tractor I began to just call Allis, and how she must be lonely so one night my neighbor brought his John Deere by and I go this idea for the song. My kids love to play in the woods down by this old Willow tree and I thought it would be a perfect setting for two tractors in love. I hope you enjoy my song, even though it may seem a little far fetched. I'm living proof that love can seed itself in the most unlikely of places.

Song Description

Allis looked beautiful in her orange dress the first time John layed his eyes on her. From that moment on, he knew he was in love. John worked hard in the foelds everyday from sun up till just before sunset when he'd make his wau up to the hill with the old Willow tree. there he'd spend the evening beside the love of his life watching the sunset. Forty years went by and John passed away. But evernight like clockwork Allis would climbe the old hill to the willow tree and watch the sunset and think about their love, because it was always enough. Love has no bounds, even when their names are Allis Chalmers and John Deere.

Lyrics

It was 1952 on the day that they met. Allis wore an Orange dress that matched the sunset. John was plowin' up cropland for the very first time. Some called it love at first sight.

It was not soon after that John said, "be mine".
It was under the Willow tree that the would combine.
So they sat and watched the sunset and confessed their love, and it was always enough.

John said, "Allis you got a beautiful design" and they made hay while the sun shines.

She was Allis Chalmers he was good ol' John Deer. Out there in the back yard it was perfectly clear,
they were in love, and as sure as you'd bet every night they'd watch the sunset.

It was 40 years and I remember to this day, the look of Allis when they towed John away. Now she sits in the backyard and she's sittin there yet. Every night she'll watch the sunset.

She was Allis Chalmers he was good ol' John Deer. Out there in the back yard it was perfectly clear,
they were in love, and as sure as you'd bet every night they'd watch the sunset.

Some of you might think this is just a silly song. Singin' 'bout two tractors in Love is all wrong. But if you love farmin' as much as some do, yo might believe that it's true.

She was Allis Chalmers he was good ol' John Deer. Out there in the backyard it was perfectly clear,
they were in love, and as sure as you'd bet, every night they'd watch the sunset.
