Hello! The song " Got to believe" was incredible, amazing, beautiful, hopeful. Here is why........my parent's lost their son at the age of 7 to brain cancer..... He died 2 years before I was born... My parent's are a living witness of relentless faith and trust in God........ I intend to write a song about "Wayne", I just joined Broadjam, no coincidence God is leading me to certain connections.... Also, your style of music I love! Your album is amazing! God Bless you! Keep in touch.... Julia Schmidt

Hey Julia, Thank you so much for you kind words. "Got to believe is a song I wrote for my brother Lloyd who died in an airplane crash in Alaska in the early 1990's. My brother and I sang it at his funeral. Last year I decided to bring it out and share it. We may not get all the answers we want from God, but His faithfulness and his promises are true. When it comes down to it, that has to be enough. Share the song with your parents and let them know...that Wyane is o.k. in the tender hands of our Lord Jesus. Thanks for writing....Bryan

Hey Jason, Thanks for the review of Jesus Loves Me. The song was never intended to be a remake of the classic. My thought behind the song is utter amazement that the God of the universe loves ME! And sometimes in the midst of life it does me good to whisper to myself that Jesus loves ME! In the midst of God's creation, in the everydayness of life
when I hear the majesty of the ocean roar as waves crash on the beach... I whisper to myself...Jesus Loves ME. Close your eyes and whisper to yourself and feel the love of GOd fill you. Anyway, that's why I love the way the vocalist goes off at the end of the song...he is celebrating that Jesus loves Him. It is not cliche...the God of the Universe is in love with us / with me / with you. And it is amazing that He does.....Thanks again for the review. I appreciate the time you took. Bryan

Your welcome on the review, though I'm afraid I didn't explain some of my comments fully. I listed to the song again and wanted to offer some clarification. First, the song it's self is not cliche' and the line that you referenced in your post is definitely not cliche'. In my review I simply referred to "clap your hands stomp your feet" as a cliche' way to start....regardless of whether or not cliche' is a good description, it is not near as strong of a line as the rest of your song, a lot of which is very nice, and it is the very first line people hear....I think you need to lead stronger if you are going to engage listeners from the beginning. They shouldn't have to wait to be drawn in to it you should grab them from the first word and that phrase just didn't do it for me...the rest of the song is much stronger writing. Secondly, the vocalist going off at the end is great, but it was about 50sec till the end of the fade out. I don't think you have to drastically cut it off, but I would fade it just a bit quicker on the recorded version...live you could go as long as you felt led to keep going. The sentiment of the song is great and though it is not a true "remake" of the old "Jesus Loves Me This I Know", When your chorus starts "Jesus Loves Me This I Know" it instantly brings to mind the song that kids growing up in a church environment have heard a million times and I am afraid anyone familiar with church music will make the same mistake; if you do not want that association, you may want to tweak it just a bit. My only goal in every review I write is simply to express things that I feel could make the song more marketable and easier for the listener to catch on to quicker. I have found that this is amazingly difficult to do with Christian music because writers are so attached to their songs. When God moves in our hearts and inspires us to write and create, it is not simply our job to tell people how we feel, but to draw them in and lead them to a place where they feel the same, awe that we felt when we wrote it. I meant no disrespect in anything I put in the review; I simply wanted to share things that I thought could increase the power and the reach of the message you were trying to convey....be blessed

Jason

Jason,
Thanks for the note. I didn't take your review in a negative way. And I appreciate you taking the time to clarify your thoughts. I think the review and the rewrite process is very constructive and usually brings about a better song. Thanks again for taking the time and I hope that we can continue to help each other.

How you met Christ and how he is using you in your music ministry....I'll be praying for you...

Author

Thank you for the prayers. I was blessed to grow up in church and a Christian family, Christ has been a part of my life for most of my life. But it wasn't until I was out of high school and really be able be independent and find what it meant to have a real relationship with Christ. That journey led me to making some very tough decisions that ultimately led to a relationship that I never knew was possible. After a stint in a non-denominational church, and a stint with no church at all (I know what it means to be burned...and burned out!) I am back in the church I grew up in trying to help grow a contemporary worship environment in an otherwise fairly traditional Methodist Church. It is challenging, but has been a great growing experience. God has taught me and is teaching me how to simply be a servant and try to love people where they are...I don't always get my way, but I do my best, by God's grace, to operate as faithfully as I can in the place God has placed me. I do not do music for a living. :-) Ultimately, songwriting is just something I do...it is something I am truly passionate about. I put songs out here in the hopes to get feedback from my peers and to hopefully have God use them anyway he chooses to. I had a pretty active broadjam account several years ago when I released a solo album...it was remarkable the emails and contact I received from people who stumbled across the music. I just recently reactivated my membership and am anxious to get some of my new stuff heard.

That is awesome that you are back on broadjam. I am glad you have found a church where you can serve. Being part of a Christian family is so important for so many reasons. But I also understand your frustrations as well. I too am just a part time songwriter. I work as a commodities trader for a grain company in Nebraska. We buy and sell corn and wheat and the like. The album that Jesus Loves Me is part of is my first professionally produced one. I am doing it to raise money and awareness for a Christian Ministry called Hope's Promise.
They minister to orphans in Kenya, Vietnam and Nepal.
My hope is to raise some money to help them start a new orphanage in Kenya where there are two million orphans.
I just received my CDs back from replication and am starting the marketing process. I would appreciate it if you could keep the project in your prayers. To learn more, you can go to my website at picnicinthemeadow.com. It has been great talking to you Jason, let's stay in touch. I will drop by your and listen to your new stuff. That will be great.
