NATASHA AND MARINA PIKOUL
Marina and Natasha Pikoul, twin sisters and co-writers, both graduated from the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory as composers and pianists, later obtaining postgraduate qualifications at the Paris National Conservatory in the same disciplines. In 1993 Natasha received second prize in the International Paris Bach piano competition. Their chamber and orchestral compositions have been performed in Russia, Great Britain and France, and have been published in Russia. Recently Marina's "Prelude and Fugue " for piano solo had it's debut in Japan. In Moscow in 1989 they were winners of the Contemporary Music Competition, their winning composition was adopted as the obligatory contemporary work in the IX International Tchaikovsky Piano Competition, 1990. In 2000 Natasha composed a score for Christopher Hampton's play "Les Liaisons Dangereuses" for a national tour of the UK.
The sisters have recently completed a fantasy operetta "Margarita and Him" after the modern novel by Mikhail Bulgakov, with adaptation and lyrics by Richard Tomes. They are the composers of many new age / classical songs.'Fatal Spell' was voted best composition in Portugal by the International Music Award Competition and has received an Honorable Mention in 11th Unisong International Contest . 'Love is Out There' won the Grand Prize in the second session of the 2006 John Lennon Songwriting contest and the Fourth prize in the 11th Unisong International Contest in the "World" category. 'San Simon' was nominated for the Los Angeles Music Award in 2007. "The Round" won the Second Prize in the Midwest Song Contest ("World" category) in 2007. "Surrendering to love" has been selected as a finalist (one of 4 winners) in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest in 2007 ("World" category), "Sweet dreamer Solveig"has received Honorable mention winner in The 11th Cooch Music Amateur Songwriting Contest.
