Story Behind The Song
From the DVD concept "The Holy Pail"
Song Description
He?s in a hood no white boy should. Tentatively, like a rabbit, his heart pounds
as the shadowy scape of the hood and its ominous occupants grow & lean toward
the little ugly broken down car . From the point of view of the people on the
street, MgGee?s a pathetic white boy in need. A hospitable black cabby with
a hat & gold tooth offers assistance. MgGee shakes nervously as he opens his
empty wallet to the cabby. The cabby insists he knows where to go.
(The street comes to life in song & dance for the first chorus.
FUNKSTITUTIONALIZED!)
MgGee is shoved into the taxi and raced off to the funkstitution. Two
linebacker size orderlies yank him from the cab, through him on a gurney,
and fly him down a hallway crashing through doors bouncing off the walls.
He crashes through double doors marked operating room. MgGee suddenly
finds himself in a pulsating 70s funk disco. Mirror balls, helicopter lights.
MgGee is escorted from the gurney by two voluptuous women in skin tight
nurses garb. He stumbles up to a large a hefty brother in shades,
a multi-colored afro, and a doctors coat. The nurses lead him over to
a robot like, upright, electro dancercycle, rightfully named ?the Funk Machine?.
The Doctor attempted to ease his fear. The nurses strap him in & pull
down the built in shades. MgGee?s eyes bulge as the well endowed nurse
tugs the crotch restraint. The machine takes MgGee on the dance of his life.
MgGee emerges reborn. New threads, shades, skanking down the hall with a
nurse on each arm. His Gremlin is valet?d to the door funked out in a green &
purple paint job, spoke rims and tinted windows. He drives off even deeper
into the 'hood

Lyrics
HEY WHITE BOY
HEY WHITE BOY
IN A SMALL TIME SUBURB OF A BIG CITY HIGH
WAS A WHITE BOY MR MGGEE
HE WAS WET BEHIND THE EARS NEVER BEEN
TO THE CITY NEVER BEEN IN THE COMPANY
WITH THE FOLK THAT WERE THERE HAD A
TALK OF THEIR OWN AND A SOUND DISTINCTIVELEY
THAT SET THEM APART FROM ALL THAT HE
KNEW AND ALL THAT HE WANTED TO BE
ON ONE STORMY NIGHT THE SIGNS WERE OUT OF SIGHT
TOOK A WRONG TURN IN HIS CAR
AND BEFORE HE KNEW IT HE REALIZED HE BLEW IT
ON A ROAD HE'D TAKEN TOO FAR
HE WAS NOW IN THE CITY IT WAS SUCH A PITY
THAT HIS CAR HAD GOTTEN A FLAT
'CAUSE WHEN HE GOT OUT HE BEGAN TO SHOUT
WHEN A BLACK MAN IN A HAT SAID
"EVER BEEN FUNKSTITUTIONALIZED ?
HEY THERE WHITE BOY EVER BEEN FUNKSTITUTIONALIZED
I KNOW A PLACE TO GET FUNKSTITUTIONALIZED
FUNKSTI-WHAT? MGGEE SCARED SILLY
JUMPED INTO THE STREET MISSED BY AN INCH
BY A CITY CAB HE PAYED HIS FARE COMPLETE
"GET ME AWAY I CANNOT STAY WHERE I DO NOT KNOW
DRIVER LOOKED BACK AND TIPPED HIS HAT
AND SAID "SON I KNOW WHERE TO GO TO GET"
EVER BEEN FUNKSTITUTIONALIZED ?
HEY THERE WHITE BOY EVER BEEN FUNKSTITUTIONALIZED
I KNOW A PLACE TO GET FUNKSTITUTIONALIZE
"STOP THIS THING I WANNA GET OUT"
MGGEE SCREAMED FRANTICALLY
CABBIE SAID "NO I DON'T THINK SO SURE LOOK SICK TO ME"
RACED DOWNTOWN TO EMERGENCY
PULLED UP OUTSIDE THE WARD
TWO BIG GUYS IN WHITE COATS RUSHED
MGGEE THROUGH THE DOOR
"COME THIS WAY DON'T TRY TO WALK
THE WAY YOU DO MUST HURT
JUST FALL IN THE CHAIR HEY YOU CAN DO
THAT DON'T MAKE MATTERS WORSE
WE'LL STRAP YOU IN TO A FUNK MACHINE
TWENTY-FOUR HOURS A DAY
NON STOP RICK JAMES' SUPER FREAK
IS ALL THAT IT WILL PLAY 'CAUSE YOU'RE"
FUNKSTITUTIONALIZED
HEY THERE WHITE BOY EVER BEEN FUNKSTITUTIONALIZED
I KNOW A PLACE TO GET FUNKSTITUTIONALIZE
SEVEN DAYS STRAIGHT ON THE RACK OF DANCE
AND A SIDE COURSE OF HAND JIVE
SET HIM STRAIGHT HE WAS FEELING GREAT
THE FUNKIEST MAN ALIVE
GRABBED HIS HAT AND HE WAS ALL THAT
WHEN HE HIT THE STREET
GOT A MOVING SLIDE IN HIS IN HIS GLIDE
HE'S GOT SOUL IN HIS FEET NOW HE'S
HEY WHITE BOY
HEY WHITE BOY
