Song Description

the primary rhythm here is used in what is known as 'nong-ak'...a kind of rural/village folk music in Korea. the percussion instrument used here is an authentic one called 'kkwaenggwari'...(google it)...it is a small brass hand-held gong played with a stick...it provides a very loud ring...it is also one of the instruments played in the recently developed genre called samulnori...although this is entirely original, the melody line also evokes the jubilant feel of 'nong-ak'...this kind of music is often heard at concerts especially around 'chusok', koreans' thanksgiving.
