ON A BAYOU ROAD ©Pat Flanakin
Words & Music by Pat Flanakin

Way down in Louisiana where the bayou flows
Into the Gulf of Mexico
You know there's not a lot of people that would brave the night
But a friend and I did go
We were on our way to Houston leavin' New Orleans
Just a workin' our way back home
When Willy said to me, you wanna look and see
What's down that bayou road

It must've been the full moon in our eyes
Or the bottle of cherry wine
But you could feel a hoodoo in the night
We took a ride on a bayou road

As we turned off of the highway in the dim headlights
You could see the risin' steam
And all the moss hangin' down like a hangman's noose
From the pine and the cypress trees
And in the bushes passin' by there was fireflies
But they looked like eyes to me
Yeah, you could feel it in your bones as we drove along
It's best we both just leave

CHORUS

Well, Willy started actin' strange, he was callin' out a name
I ain't never heard before
I'd like to tell 'ya what it was, but I'm sure it holds a curse
That I know would do 'ya harm
And all the creatures of the night, man they started to fight
As Willy opened up his door
And I could see it to my right, as Willy stepped outside
It's like nothin' I'd seen before

CHORUS

Well, it looked just like a goat with a head and a throat
Of a man you had to see
And as it came onto the road, I could swear it said hello
As it stared right back at me
Then it jumped across the hood, landin' right where Willy stood
I was frozen to my seat
No, Willy didn't even try, he just looked me in the eyes
As the goat began to eat

CHORUS
BREAK

Way down in Louisiana where the bayou flows
Into the Gulf of Mexico
You know there's not a lot of people that would brave the night
But I made it back out alone
And if I'd ever go back in, I'd run into a friend
I left on a bayou road
For it happened like I said, but Willy isn't dead
He turned into a goat

CHORUS
