The Potty Training Song (long version)

Story Behind The Song

Last summer we were on vacation with our little granddaughter Gracie, who was just beginnning potty training. I wrote this song for her. She loves it and calls me up to sing it to her often!

Song Description

This song covers digestion, growing up, getting out of diapers and into training pants, proper hygeine, terminology, and dealing with accidents. Sounds serious, but it's ever so fun!

Lyrics

My daddy feeds me yummy food; My mom gives me a drink
I chew my food and swallow it and then it starts to sink
Down deep inside my tummy, but it doesn't disappear
It travels through my body and then comes right out the rear.

CHORUS: Tinkle Tinkle, Mama likes to hear
Tinkle Tinkle, sittin' on my potty chair.
Tinkle tinkle. Tinkle tink kerPLOP!
Everybody's laughin'! Mom and Dad are clappin'
I just made it happen, Tinkle Tinkle Tink kerPLOP!

When I was teeny tiny, a diaper's what I wore
But now that I am older, I won't need them anymore.
My dad will buy me training pants; He says I'm getting big.
Mommy's so excited, she and Grandpa danced a jig. (SING CHORUS)

After I go potty, I wipe carefully and flush
Then over to the sink to wash myself; I never rush.
I swish the soap between my hands; I've got to kill those germs.
Grandma says my fingers are her little wiggleworms. (SING CHORUS)

My auntie is an expert; in etiquette, she's smart
A proper word for everything, like gas instead of ........ (Shhh)
My uncle is a doctor, and he took us on a walk
Then he advised my parents to refrain from baby talk.

Bridge: Urinate means pee; Defecate means poo
Constipate means trouble, cuz I can't go number two.
Eliminate will cover, oh just everything, I think-le
My bladder's full; I've got to void--which means I need to .... (SING CHORUS)

Little boys go standing up, but girls go sitting down.
And if I have an accident, I'll chase away that frown.
For if at first you don't succeed, then try again, don't scream.
Just thank the Lord for Clorox, and for your washin' machine. (SING CHORUS)
