Brilliant Beginner

Story Behind The Song

During the making of my album, I found myself without a job for the first time since I was about 16. I wanted to write about the odd life transition (in general) of mid life and how awkward it was to re-figure out life in my forties.

A quirky, jangly song about mid life crisis that is upbeat in an awkward way with chimes, trumpet, and a catchy guitar riff

Lyrics

A curious thing I have to say
An awkward apprentice M.I.A.
He shows up again in different shoes

A little uptight--
that's nothing new
With a bio like his
you would be too
Pays for mistakes along the way

A brilliant beginner
with a story like yours and mine
Avoiding the mirror
and pouring a glass of wine

I know he's lamenting
once again
I'll never know how
I'm who I am
and not knowing how
to act my age

Call it a crisis--maybe true
Leaving no footprint
passing through
And wondering what in
the world to do

Chorus

A story nobody knows
It's a story that everybody knows (2x)

Chorus
