Lyrics

SHE GAVE EVERYTHING FOR ME
Gail Wasserman Ed Bentley edbentley@mail.com
Verse 1
When she started to show, she let him know
Shock of her life, what she heard him say
I have a wife and a son, god what have I done
I wanted to tell you, just not this way
Though he stayed in touch, a small check each month
She made a choice, to be mom and dad
Raised me alone, made a good home
We didn't have much, what we needed we had

Chorus
She was my mama and my papa
Life was hard, never, came easy
Oh working all day, sometimes at night
Giving her all, to make my life right
She gave everything
Yeah she gave everything for me

verse 2
My eighteenth birthday, I was blown away
A card from my dad, his photo inside
Couldn't believe, he looked so much like me
Have to admit, damn tears in my eyes
Today is much better, we spend time together
Now I have a family, a son of my own
thankful for dad, good times we've have had
But I won't forget, how mama raised me alone

  Chorus
Bridge
So glad I was able Connect with my Dad
Now he's givin my son, the time- we never had

Last Chorus

Mama, was my mama and my papa
Life was hard, never, came easy
Oh working all day, sometimes at night
Giving her all, to make my life right
She gave everything, Mama gave everything
Yeah, she gave everything for me

Great Sentiment/Very well sung, nicely written. Just a nice song

This song has a lot of energy. The mix is very good.

I do think the melody has a complexity to it that makes it a little hard to follow. There is a main melody which switches into a secondary melody on the lyrics: "Though he stayed in touch, a small check each month She made a choice, to be mom and dad". It then switches back to the main melody. But the two melodies seem too similar and this contributes to the sense of being hard to follow.

The hook is pretty good but the melody takes too long to get to it (in my humble opinion) which ends up rendering it less effective.

Otherwise this is a good song which, I think with a little work, can become a stronger song.
