All He'll Ever Own

Story Behind The Song

This was written for an old friend that would come by to see me, and out of nowhere he would say. "See you in a few days. I'm hitting the road for a while", and off he would go. He might be gone for a few days or a few weeks. You just never knew.

Lyrics

"All He'll Ever Own"

His pants were old and soiled and his boots had lost their shine.
So much he needs to get done but he can never find the time.
He stares out into space as he lights a cigarette.
Some place he should have been or did he just forget.
He sings.

He's got no time for a sweet things kissin'
No time for a sweet things love.
The wheels inside his head keep turnin' on what he's thinking of.
Those winter winds are comin' this voice cries from deep inside.
Get that big bike runnin' come on take another ride.

Now he feels so much better when he hears that engine whine.
Often says this highway is a damned good friend of mine.
No strings can bind him don't think nothings gonna drag him down.
His gleaming chrome and his highway are all he'll ever own.

Now I always see him smiling no matter what's gone wrong.
Especially if he's catching hell for being gone to long.
No words can phrase him don't think nothing ever gonna phase him.
He's one of a kind got a worried about it mind
But he's the best friend you'll ever find.
He says.

Now it was late one night the sun had gone down and these clouds had gone to bed.
We set around and talked about something he once said.
He said women are fine at timess if you know what I am speaking of
But I'm married to this open road and that there Harley's my only love.

Now he feels so much better when he hears that engine whine.
Often says this highway is a damned good friend of mine.
No strings can bind him don't think nothings gonna get him down.
His gleaming chrome and his highway home are all he'll ever own.
He says..
Now he's a long, long way from home..
