Crash n' Burn

Story Behind The Song

Seven years in the making, the song idea came to the producer of the record Ade Cruse in a dream in 2016. He woke up and captured a voice memo at 3 am and recorded the demo in the Bay Area, California. The demo caught the attention of an A&R at artist publishing group/Warner Chappell that wanted it for a reggae act that didn't pan out. After shopping it to major labels, Lizzy, then going by the stage name Jasmine Nichol decided to release the demo with a video that received 100k views and knew it was something she should focus on as the single. A manager at the London-based publishing company Knotting Hill reached out about the song and suggested some additional production beyond the demo that would directly contribute to the final version. During that time, Lizzy welcomed her daughter and would take some time off to enjoy motherhood. "Being a mother has been the most rewarding and fulfilling experience to date. There's nothing I feel like I can't take on or that's too big to accomplish. It's given me a sense of wellbeing when there is chaos outside." While sitting with anxiety during the global pandemic, the producer Ade Cruse thought it would be a good idea to revisit the song. He brought in musicians from all over to bring Crash n' Burn to its final form. Produced and recorded in several places, California, Nashville, London, Germany, Philadelphia, and Brazil! The record was finished and polished with a mix by legendary engineer Dave Way (Fiona Apple, Pink, Sheryl Crow, Ben Folds, Macy Gray, Foo Fighters, Michael Jackson) and some jazzy guitar playing by Noah Needleman (Brett Young, Allen Stone, Boyz II Men) sure to keep listeners grooving.

Song Description

Written with bright and witty lyrics of optimism, Crash n' Burn is a breezy pick-me-up. It's a colorful smile with the smell of coffee in the morning and the sun shining. It's reminiscent of those early '70s, 80s soft/yacht rock records. With the world recovering from the pandemic, now more than ever felt like the right time to give people much-needed relief. The song is a gentle reminder of keeping track of the state of your spirit and mental health. We were inspired to make the world smile again. Also, there was an urge to give voice to more black women in pop spaces. We're not all one-dimensional, and I'd love to contribute to the underrepresentation.

Lyrics

When you wake up in the morning
No stress you gotta feel no stress
Before you wine down in the star light
No stress you gotta feel no stress

I know sometimes things just don't go your way
KO yourself and it won't be OK
Live for tomorrow & start by loving today
I know sometimes things just don't go your way
KO yourself and it won't be OK
Live for tomorrow & start by loving today

So take control now &
Take it slow now or
Crash & Burn Crash & Burn Crash & Burn
Yea you'll Crash & Burn
So take control now
Make sure you slow down or
Crash & Burn Crash & Burn Crash & Burn
Yea you'll Crash & Burn

When you hate life on a Monday
No stress you gotta feel no stress
Paid your bills now you're out of money
No stress you gotta feel no stress

I know sometimes things just don't go your way
KO yourself and it won't be OK
Live for tomorrow & start by loving today
I know sometimes things just Don't go your way
KO yourself and it won't be OK
Live for tomorrow & start by loving today

So take control now &
Take it slow now or
Crash & Burn Crash & Burn Crash & Burn
Yea you'll Crash & Burn
So take control now
Make sure you slow down or
Crash & Burn Crash & Burn Crash & Burn out
Hey, hey baby, uhh
You'll lose your mind swerving out the lines
