Story Behind The Song
I wrote the song partially to get my songwriting class in adult ed thinking about who they are, what they want to say as human beings and beginning songwriters. I also wrote it as a meditation on how we use our time, and whether we are just too busy sometimes.
Song Description
We all have dreams and ambitions that sometimes don't get realized or even expressed. We stay very busy, and between our jobs and family responsibilities, we may never find time to act on our actual passions. It's worth thinking about this, and whether we can take steps to do something from our heart, something that resides in the deepest part of us. The song is an attempt to inspire this kind of reflection, to ask, "What do I really want to say?"

Lyrics
You can fill up all those daytime hours /Then more options maybe come at night / You seldom have trouble filling up your days / When the schedule's always packed so tight.
You can do things by the calendar / Or from the daily list you start / But maybe ask yourself, from time to time / Is it something from your heart? / Is it something from your heart?
Friends and family, they ask much of you / And you work hard to earn and keep your home / You try to meet the expectations they have / But sometimes you just feel alone.
There is pride in sticking to your path, / And each day you pull a different cart. / But as you reflect on what you carried through, / Was it something from your heart? / Are you sharing from your heart?
Oooh. Who am I, who am I today? / Oooh. What do I really want to say? Mmm mmm.
Oh the years they seem to go so fast / And there are many dreams we don't pursue / In private moments here and there, we wish / We didn't always have so much to do.
There's a lot from obligations, yes. / Or because we have to play a part. / But maybe this old drama has another role / That calls for something from the heart / It calls for something from the heart.
Oooh, who am I? Who am I today? / Oooh, what do I, really want to say? Hmm mm.
