Some Sign of You

Story Behind The Song

I learned to play the dulcimer when performing in Detroit during my Joni Mitchell phase. I even wrote a couple songs with the dulcimer (one of them being this song). Years later, when I wanted to record my musical memoirs, I dragged out my dulcimer and, lo and behold, it was missing a string and the rest of the strings couldn't hold their tuning. I took it into a guitar shop and met the instrument repair fellow, who happened to be Chris Weber, who played with Bob Dylan. And thus began our friendship that continues to this day. Chris whipped my dulcimer into shape and Bill Bentley arranged the song so I could strum the lovely instrument to my heart's content. Oh, and by the way, the song was inspired by my longtime love, with whom I shared a home, a daughter, and a band. I was hoping he would come home.

Some Sign Of You

V1: It's four in the morning and I'm still sitting here
I got a room to let and room for another beer
Guess I'll just sit here till the next train comes through
And hope it brings me some sign of you

V2: Hard to believe it but you took my words to heart
They were spoken in anger I tried hard not to start
But I said them and I'm sorry - now I don't know what to do
But sit here waiting for some sign of you

Bridge: Where do you go when the heat's on
Where do you hide with all your hiding places gone
How many times can I say it
I was wrong - so wrong

V3: Well you've got yourself a key dear and you surely know the way
I don't know how long I'll be here - I don't know how long I can stay
As the sun starts rising and the day begins anew
I hope the morning brings some sign of you

Some sign of you
Some sign of you
A sign of you
