Hi Marshall - TNX for the nice review of 'Just Want To Drive'. That's Mike Lusk on lead vocals - he does a really nice job. You have point about getting more out front in the chorus. I did a little listening and think your 'Proud To Be A Folky' has a real unique feel and vibe. I always like seeing the lyrics for song, so maybe you'll post them with you song file at some point. Sometimes I miss a lyric and a key point of the story, so reading them helps me get the whole song idea. Keep up the nice writing!
Hey, Marvin! I enjoyed 'Got Me All Messed Up'. Very clean and groovy. Agree with Bill Dake that it spans genres....maybe more jazz to me than Americana. nice work, Sir!
Thanks for the kind words...Marvin
Peter, Thanks for connecting. I checked into SongTown a bit. I had not heard of it prior to reading your bio. Looks really interesting. I may partake someday! I'm currently a member of NSAI and thoroughly enjoying it. Talk soon!
Hi Jason - If/when you think you might jump in with SongTown, let me know. We'll have a phone or ZOOM talk. Amazing opportunities, classes, networking, and pitching songs directly to industry pros if you audition for, and get into their 'Edge Groups' (as they call them). I'm getting to pitch country songs directly to artists and publishers who are looking for songs for their clients. I just had the chance to pitch to Brandon Davis and Charlie Worsham. No luck, but SongTown gets you in the room, so to speak. Can't ask for more than that. Contact info: pboynton@madrtiver.com cell: 802 279-4347. I'm in Waitsfield, VT.
Sounds awesome! Congrats on all that. My producer is currently getting me into some of those rooms too, but there is always room for more rooms! NSAI provides some publisher pitches, song evaluations, mentoring, etc. I'm gonna stick with it the rest of the year but I may give SongTown a try real soon! Contact: jcole70@gmail.com Delete Comment
Hi Riq - Your music is really good. 'Dark Days' especially, has great sync potential IMHO. I'm pursuing sync placements as well, and have a few songs in libraries now. 'Dark Days' has that one-emotion, no specific story and details construction that the sync industry is looking for. Really nice work. Great vibe. Good for a dramatic series. Thanks for the favorable review of 'I Can See The Day'. I've got it in my revolving Crucial queue and we'll see what happens...(you know about that, yes? If not, send me a note at pboynton@madriver.com and I'll explain). Write on! - Peter
Thank you for the positive feedback. I'm really just getting my feet wet in this scene. I'll email you. Riq
I'll look for it.
Hi Riq - Very pretty song. I own an old farm and we've hosted weddings here for over 20 years (www.theskinnerbarn.com). i could totally see this as a first dance song for one of our couples. Really nicely done. Two thoughts: I'd stick with your last version of the chorus all the way through, ('end' instead of 'defense' seems to land better for me). And maybe start the song with the 2nd verse? It's stronger, and gets right to the heart of your story. Falling back to the background story of the current 1st verse after you've set the scene might be cool. Thanks for the review of 'You And I'. That song lives in a few music libraries with different genre arrangements for each. Your song could easily go that route as well.
Thanks for the feedback and pointers.
Hey, Jason - 'Squared Up...' is really fun. Sometimes you just have to say it straight from the heart. I like the upbeat, movin' on groove and lyric on a subject that's usually a cryin' in my beer approach. Refreshing! It's an cool and interesting song form, too...it's like a refrain song with the verse and chorus combined each time, and starting each section with the hook plants it nicely in the ear. I like that a lot. Nice production values - maybe dial back the arrangement on the next to last section and go acoustic for a moment just to add more contrast to the song sections? Really nice work - I see why it got picked up. Look forward to hearing more. - Peter
Hey, Peter! Thanks a lot for taking the time to really listen and try to unpack and understand my song. I wrote it on acoustic originally as just a 3 chord ditty that ultimately progressed into this full production. I like your idea about dialing back the arrangement in the next to last section. I think that could work well actually. The song form/structure was a little different for me, as well. It just kind of came out that way. You know how that is! I've just read your bio and I'm looking forward to checking out all of your stuff. Thanks again for reaching out! JC
Hi Kate - Thanks for the 'Our World' review. The singer we found really did a wonderful job! I intend this as an 'opener-segue' song in a theater or Disney-film-type of production. The action would move to the next scene without stopping the music or story line after it introduces this young lady. Hence the lack of a dramatic finish! You're spot on that as a stand-alone song, that would be a great variation - the big ending. Best - Peter
You've got a winner there, friend. Great vocalist! MK
Hi Peter, "Our World"...a bit of your Broadway influence me thinks...loved it! Bill
Yep - character song. Broadway/Disney...I watched a LOT of Disney musicals while raising my daughter, and when I did the 1994-1996 revival of 'She Loves Me ' on Broadway, my then 4 -yr-old got to meet the actors who did the voices of 'Jaffar' and 'Alladin' - both actors were in our cast. A thrill for her!
Thanks for the review of my tune Sorry! I appreciate the detailed feedback and suggestions. For info 'Ms Scheindlin' was a reference to Judge Judy (Scheindlin) and the being judged inference in the story in the song. Thanks again! :-)
Hi Nigel - Thanks for the follow-up. It's a nice song. Ah...OK...the Judge Judy reference might narrow your audience, though. The lyrics have a nice impact when you're staying with YOUR feelings and thoughts. Good luck with it!
Thanks for all the 5 stars ratings, much appreciated! Wondering if you got the email with the mp3? George
Good Morning, George - Yes. Thanks. Nice! I'm pulled away from music today by lots of plowing and shoveling. We got 13" of new snow here yesterday. Beautiful, but we're tired of it now and ready for spring! To be continued...
Wishing for spring here also!
Hi Marvin. Glad to keep bumping into you! TNX for the nice review of 'Trust Me Just A Little'. That title always felt too long... That's Mike Lusk on the vocals. I can write a country song, but can't pull off the vocals. Too much diction and articulation from my northern upbringing and theater career....grin I'll circle back when things slow down a little for me and talk collaboration! Would enjoy that.
Thanks for the update.....
Black Cherry Soda: especially from 2:02-on, has a great emotional punch, George. Do you ever consider top-lining? This is ready built for lyrics/melody line.
Hey Peter, Thanks for the kinds words! By top-lining do you mean co-writing? If that's what you mean then yes. I've done that with a couple of BJ members and am always open to working with other folks. George
Hi George - Yes, top-lining as in adding lyrics and melody. I've done this with a collaborator here on BJ (Chicago Bob) and like to pitch the lyric/melody idea before asking for a co-write commitment (with a split sheet). No harm, no foul if you don't like the idea. I'd be interested in hearing how that has worked out in the past for you, and maybe hearing an example? I'm writing for both sync placements, (I'm in four libraries), and also artist pitches. I'm heavily involved with the SongTown crowd and am getting an ongoing opportunity there to pitch to artists. My email: pboynton@madriver.com. Using the BJ platform to communicate can get clunky!
Hey Peter, Sounds good! I'll send a MP3 of the last thing I did with A BJ member to your email address. George
Hi George - I've been head-down completing co-write projects for bait now. I'm circling back to think about proposing some toppling co-writes. Did you send me the MP3 you mention above? I don't think I got it. My email again is pboynton@madriver.com. Also, I think there was a song of yours, 'New Girl On The Block' on the site. I mentioned it in a comment below. Is it still on here on BJ? Hope you're well! - Peter
oy...the auto-correct on my Mac is so disturbing...(grin) excuse the weird words above: ...for a BIT now...top-line.....
Hey Peter, I did send that email and you responded. You said you had gotten snowed in and we're taking a break. The new girl on the block tune is called Valarie second tune on my page. I'm out of town but I can resend that email next week. Best, George
Hi George - TNX - I thought you had sent the co-write MP3, but then couldn't locate it in my Mail program. Thanks for re-sending when you get back. OK, the new girl = 'Valarie" - Got it! Sorry to seem so disorganized. Not my norm... I'm in London next week, and will re-connect when I get back. I'm putting a check-in with you on my calendar. Do send the MP3 again by email so I have yours. I can never keep track of 'Comments' here on BJ. - Peter pboynton@madriver.com
No problem! I'll get it to you when I'm back. George
Hey Peter, Thanks for the stars on Valarie, much appreciated! George
You've got major chops, George. Glad to have found your music to listen to.
WoW! Just listened to the new girl on the block. Heading back for more. Beautifully written, played and produced, George. Hoo Haw.
Hi Jimmy - TNX for the revue of 'Don't Tell Me'. That's Mike Lusk down in Nashville on the vocals. Love his voice. I could never pass for a country singer...grin...so he's my go-to guy. You'd get a kick out of hearing my original songwriter demo for the song - it was all Michael McDonald - DX7 - 6ths and maj 7th chords...it worked great as an urban, jazz/pop song. The fact that it could move to another genre with a 'country rinse' opened up my eyes about a lot of my older tunes. Appreciate your listen and positive feedback!
Glad to get the chance to hear your music anything to help out a fellow writer, or maybe join you as a co writer one day? have a great day brother!
Hey, Jimmy. For sure. Let's look to getting a co-write together. I'm shooting high for artist placements, and am getting an ongoing opportunity with the SongTown crowd to get in front of artists and pitch. Those songs that don't seem to cross that threshold and get a bite, I then pitch to sync. I'm in four libraries now after getting back into writing a year ago. I like your songs - 'I'm Bad' and 'In My Dreams' show a great range and both of those stuck in my ear. My email is pboynton@madriver.com. Much easier to communicate off-platform if you want.
Thanks brother shadowcrks@gmail.com
Hi Marvin - I posted a comment yesterday but maybe it didn't get through. It might be easier to connect by email. I'm interested n collaborating. Shoot me an email at pboynton@madriver.com. TNX. Love the 1st two tracks I listened to.
Cool email .. is that Mad River or Ma Driver? LOL..... What were the 2 tracks you heard? that will give me a better idea of the genre you may be interested in....I do have a few songs with lyrics. I tried the email and would not send!
Hi Marvin - I live in Waitsfield, VT in the Mad River Valley. pboynton@madriver.com Not sure why that wouldn't work... I write in the pop, country and rock genres with an occasional R&B and 'character' (theater) song thrown in for fun. My 1st career was doing Broadway musicals and Daytime TV as an actor. You can also reach me through my web site: https://peterboynton.com TNX - Peter ps - I've listened to a few of your tracks now and am initially drawn to 'Imagine' and 'I Got The You Flu'.
Hi Margie and Art - I'm not sure my 1st 'comment' of hello and thanks went through? I'm new here, and am still getting used to this platform. I find I stumble a bit trying to navigate it. SO - thanks for your lovely comment about 'Part Of My Life'. It was recorded back in 1988 and the lovely singer is LaJuan Carter. She's well-known in the NYC musician community, having toured and backed-up many headliners in the past, and now has a coaching studio for young singers. I just listened to your 'Tennessee Nights' and like everything about it: lyrics, vocals, arrangement, emotional connection, and terrific players. Well done! Thanks for reaching out, and sorry if two comments get posted - I can't seem to find your note to me, except in the email notification I got, nor the reply comment I posted here...oh well (grin).
Peter, we've been on for 8 years and we are still finding interesting aspects to Broad Jam! It's like they're almost the Dead Sea Scrolls?? But not quite that clever!! An then you just joined and Broad Jam has totally revamped the site!! Lucky You!! Oh, Glad you enjoyed our "Tennessee Nights", we have never even been to Tennessee!!! Toodles, Hope to Text again soon!! PS, anyone ever tell you, that you look like David Copper Field the Vegas Magician??
Oh, boy...yes I got that a lot. I was a daytime TV and Broadway actor in NYC for many years, and got stopped all the time asking if I was David. I always wondered if he got stopped and asked if he was me? (grin)
HELLO ART AND MARGIE. FINALLY LISTENED TO YOUR SONGS ON THE CASE, AND TENESSEE NIGHTS. VERY NICE COMPOSTITIONS, BEATS. MELODY AND LYRICS. CONGRATULATIONS ON A GREAT JOB. BOTH ARE VERY TANLENTED. BOTH SONGS DESERE 5 STARS! BEST WISHES HELEN KONIUCK.
Indeed, may Lady Luck, stop acting like a Schmuck!
Dear Helen, thanks for the Listen! Glad you enjoyed or Music!! Stay Safe! The Corey's..........
Hi Margie & Art - Thanks for connecting. Just listened to your 'Tennessee Nights' and think it's lovely. Great vocals (you, Margie?), solid arrangement and players and a sweet emotional tug to the story. That's a well-crafted song. Best - Peter Boynton - Waitsfield, VT.
Hey Peter, those Vocals and arrangement are all store bought players there in Nashville!! We hired the Best on this outing!! Toodles, The Corey's...................
You got your moneys worth!
Hi Jimmy - Thanks for listening to 'Say Goodbye'. Thanks for the 'Good Production' note, the guys at 'A Writer's Paradise' in Nashville will appreciate that. They're really good players.
Hi Peter, I don't think I'm in the right place for a massage, just hope you get it...Anyway, Maybe we are on the same page.....I don't sing but I build really good backing tracks to be Top Lined....Made the top 10 Country, Folk, R&B and Pop to name a few... With over 500 tracks on my page and several libraries under my belt...I DON"T SING FOR BEANS. With theses tracks Top Lined, the world opens up... and with your voice even more..... get in touch. Marvin
Hi Bob - I'm new to BroadJam, and appreciate your kind review of 'I Just Want To Drive'. Of course, I said to myself, let's check out Bob Birthisel, and Wowser! I just listened to 'Work'. Loved it. I'll be listening to more of your songs. Thanks, again. - Peter
Awesome, thanks Peter! I plan to do the same. Just FYI I've enjoyed Broadjam but I've kind of given up on the paid music submission part (on virtually ALL such websites). Have had a lot of success on other free platforms including a National Fox TV broadcast, but zero luck here after a few years and some dollars spent. However, it's still a fun place to discover new sounds.
Yep. I hear you. TAXI - BroadJam, they can open some doors, but the best bet seems to be going directly to the libraries, and/or connecting with music supervisors. The libraries I'm in , I contacted directly...I played 'Work' for my wife and she said 'Why isn't that on the radio?'
Ha! It is (on a few internet radio sites). Glad she liked it - have you seen my little homemade video? I try to inject a little humor here and there. The moneymakers for me have been AudioSparx/RadioSparx, Pond5 and the toughtest to get into, Crucial Music. Took me years to get one song accepted and they take 3 months to review, but that's how I got my song on an episode of Fox's "Call Me Kat" in Feb. 2021. Only played for 3 seconds and they still paid $1,000 on a 50/50 split with Crucial. You should at least try them if you haven't already. AudioSparx is regular quarterly income for me.
Good tips, TNX. I submitted 3 songs to Crucial last September. On October 3rd they rejected 2, but accepted the song of mine you reviewed ('I just Want To Drive'). It took until last week for the 'checking rights' process to get completed, and I signed the deal this past Monday. I'll be loading 3 more in for review soon. I also contacted Beth Wernick at 'Imaginary Friends Music Partners' directly, and she took the 2 songs I sent here the same day! She's exclusive, though, so maybe not right for everyone. So my songs 'You And I', and 'Don't Tell Me' (posted here) are out of circulation for a year while she pitches them. She places songs with the soap, 'The Young and The Restless', Hallmark and others. Not a 'Crucial', but a start! She has a FaceBook Group you can join, and also a web site, and accepts direct submissions. I have a lot of product, but not a lot that have gotten a pro rinse yet, so i need to peck away at that as money allows. Stacy Hogan at 'A Writer's Paradise' in Nashville has done 5 songs for me now, and is my biggest asset. Great players, full WFHs, good communicator and very successful in his own right. (check out his video of 'Masquerade' on YouTube - as song he wrote and did with his rock band, Sin Shake Sin). I'd like to talk with you sometime about GAT3 Studios. I saw them noted in your info. Are we friends here? We should be!
That's fantastic that you've gotten into Crucial, and congrats on the other exclusive. I got my Christmas song signed to a 3-year exclusive in 2016, but the guy "Mr. Christmas" turned out to be a joke and never did anything with it, so I'm out on exclusives. My biggest revenue stream is AudioSparx (and RadioSparx) who pay quarterly, and have overhead music deals everywhere like malls, stores, restaurants, etc. Totally free, non-exclusive. As for the studio, it's GAT3.com and they're super-nice, strong Christian folks who have won Grammys and Dove Awards. Artists range from DaBaby to Def Leppard, James Brown, The Band Perry, Queen Latifah, Kidd Rock and Matchbox 20. Glenn Tabor is the owner with his wife Susan. Feel free to check them out - they can also supply exceptional players.
Peter, Thanks for the 5's for "The Only One". Wasn't sure if I should even post the song. Don't usually write socio-political tunes but.... Bill
Hey, Bill. I sent you a Friend request and commented on that song in the Note section. You get that? I think this song would find traction in the SYNC world.
Peter, Got the request but can't seem to locate any note you may have sent. This new bjam site will take us old guys a little time to learn to navigate. I need to enlighten myself about the SYNC world. Bill
Onward to enlightenment! Yeah - when you send a friend request, there's a text box where you can leave a message. That's what I used...I've only been around here for a month or so, so I'm often a bit lost on the platform. Happy to connect with you!
Peter, Appreciate the review and comments on "Carolina Moon". One of my very few excursions into country. Had a plugger in Nashville who liked it, but no takers so far. I'll take some time and revisit this old tune and consider some of your suggestions. Just listened to your songs...good stuff! Welcome to bjam, it's a pretty interesting mix of folks.... Bill
Good bones on that song, Bill. It's maybe more Americana to me. You play all those instrument tracks. They're really good! Best - Peter
One man band. I'm more oriented towards Jazz but spent much of my of my early years in folk, choral, classical and PNW R&R. Bill
