Story Behind The Song
Driving home, I turned off the hiway and onto the backroads where I began to see all the things we miss on the hiway. By the time I got home I had the first verse and the chorus. In less than an hour I had the song finished.

Down The Backroads © 2016 David W. Folsom
There's a little country store
Where all the men sit on the porch and tell their stories
And every Friday evening
They play bluegrass and drink cider from a jug
'Bout a mile on down the road
There's a little church where each of them was married
Where the sermon that you'll hear
Will make you feel like Jesus just gave you a hug
	Down the backroads
Through fertile fields and pastures lie the backroads
	Down the backroads
Weaving through the fabric of America
	Down the backroads
Our country's heritage comes from the backroads
	And the good folks
Who make up this great land live down the backroads
Every farm you drive by
Has a history of life and death worth hearing
But no one seems to have the time
To listen to the stories that they tell
But if you did, you'd
Find their lives and down-home hospitality endearing
It's a long tradition
That the folks who live 'round here know all too well
	Down the backroads
Through fertile fields and pastures lie the backroads
	Down the backroads
Weaving through the fabric of America
	Down the backroads
Our country's heritage comes from the backroads
	And the good folks
Who make up this great land live down the backroads
Winding through the hills and valleys
Cutting deep into the heartland
The life blood of this nation ever-flowing
Through the soil of our farmland
	Down the backroads
Through fertile fields and pastures lie the backroads
	Down the backroads
Weaving through the fabric of America
	Down the backroads
Our country's heritage comes from the backroads
	And the good folks
Who make up this great land live down the backroads

	Down the backroads
That's where you'll find me walkin'
	Down the backroads
