Farmer's Daughter

Story Behind The Song

Romantic fun, a boy-meets-girl near-seduction on a lonely Country road. Done in a tongue-in-cheek manner.

Lyrics

Hey, farmer's daughter - can I talk to you a while?
Won't you come along with me in my second Country mile?
I gotta get to Town by 5 O'clock, or Daddy's gonna tan my hide!
What's that you say, "Take off your coat and step inside?"

Don't you know I would but Daddy's gonna be so angry.
Then again, he always is. And it ain't every day I get a
chance to say I made love to the farmer's daughter!
The farmer must have been away....

The more I think about it, the more I hate to leave.
'Cause how many chances does a young man get
to come in off of the street, out of the burnin' heat?
How many chance to meet the farmer's daughter?

I can see the sunlight in the radiance of your smile.
It takes my breath away and makes me a helpless child.
Everything about you warns me that I really shouldn't stay.
'Cause if I do I'll want to stay with you all day.

Don't you know I would but Daddy's gonna be so angry.
Then again, he always is. And it ain't every day I get a
chance to say I made love to the farmer's daughter!
The farmer must have been away....

I stepped into this like quicksand (and you know how hard it is to pull out) with the beautiful wistful melody and the delays on the guitar strums that David Gates or Gordon Lightfoot would have arranged. The lovely melody sells this song and that's a huge asset to any songwriter. The lyrics have some different twists that are interesting, witty, charming, and refreshing to hear rather than the usual cliches. Vocal harmonies are in just the right places and the instrumentation smooth as sunlight on a field. If you can't get lost in this song, then you just can't be moved by a beautiful tune.

Love the guitar intro to this pretty country song. Really great instrumentation and storytelling. Perfect vocals, nice harmonies too. Like the line about "daddy's gonna tan my hide" street/burning heat - great rhymes. This is a very well-produced track and beautifully performed.

Well i am assuming this song was recorded at a professional recording studio...Very well crafted and sound in it's presentation.I here it in a move like "Hope Floats" with Sandra Bullock

I like everything about this song and singer. Great story and instruments are driven by soulful country vocals. Ready for primetime and a video.

Very well instrumented and well arranged piece with a haunting and soulful sound. Very original concept and presentation.

Beautiful moody song. This is first-rate production, vocals, instrumentation and arrangement! Here's to your success!
